The first major elections since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic will take place on Thursday 6 May 2021. Most have been postponed from the previous year in accordance with the Coronavirus Act 2020, while all are expected to encounter a substantially larger-than-usual degree of postal votes due to social distancing measures.

These elections will serve as a useful benchmark of how the British public view the response of the Government to the pandemic, which at the time of writing has seen an excess death rate 20% higher than the historical average, over half of all adults offered a vaccine, widespread working from home and little time spent with family and friends
